What is NB-IoT?

NB-IoT, Narrow Band Internet of Things, is a cellular network connectivity technology built for the Internet of Everything. As the name suggests, NB-IoT occupies a very narrow bandwidth of about 180KHz.

Moreover, it uses the License band and can be deployed in three ways: in-band, protected band, or an independent carrier, coexisting with existing networks and can be deployed directly on GSM, UMTS, or LTE networks, i.e. 2/3/4G networks, realizing the reuse of existing networks, reducing deployment costs and achieving smooth upgrades.

As the world’s largest network in terms of coverage, the mobile network is unique in its access capability.

Therefore, compared with WiFi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, and other wireless connectivity methods, the prospect of cellular-based NB-IoT connectivity technology is more promising and has gradually been commercialized into the IoT industry as the key to opening the era of the Internet of Everything.

The most popular NB-IoT still belongs to the authorized channel, and the biggest feature of NB-IoT is that the transmission distance reaches a staggering 10km, and it can carry countless terminals, and one base station can carry more than 200,000 terminals.

This means that Managing a manhole cover or parking fee becomes easy and cheap. Even if a base station is built with 2 million yuan, it can be managed within a 10km radius.

Of course, since NB-IoT is a licensed channel, it is still unlikely to be used in enterprises. So NB-IoT can only be connected to the core network (operator) first, and then enter the enterprise.
